WEINGUT SIEGRIST, Leinsweiler - Pfalz
The winery is located in the community of Leinsweiler (area Südliche Weinstraße) in the German wine region Pfalz. Originally it was a mixed agricultural enterprise with about 2.5 hectares of vineyards. The wine was sold in casks to the local cooperative until 1975, when bottling was introduced. The Siegrist family has been involved in winegrowing for many generations. The vineyards comprise 14.5 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Sonnenberg (Leinsweiler) and Mütterle (Wollmesheim), as well as in the two communities of Eschbach and Ilbesheim. They are planted to 60% with the white wine varieties Riesling (25%), Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Silvaner and Pinot Gris, and to 40% with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The terroir is composed of Loess with limestone.

Environmentally friendly viticulture is practised consistently. The restored tithe cellar from 1555 is used today as a barrique cellar. Thomas Siegrist is one of the innovative Palatinate pioneers in barrique maturation. Around 100,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter), the German Barrique Forum, the association "Fünf Winzer, fünf Freunde aus der Südpfalz", as well as the KUW (Kontrolliert Umweltschonender Weinbau).

First a decent gentle perfume then a surprising opening in mouth with green apple, pear and honey melon, juicy and powerful, lively and complex with a refreshing acidity and lightly mineral finish

Food recommendation: Fish, seafood, white meat, for e.g. Blanquette de veaux (veal ragout) , lotte de mer (monkfish) in lemon sauce or rabbit in a Riesling cream. Perfect also for all kind of Asian food and Sushi.
