GROSSe LAGE

The history of the Thanisch winery goes back to the year 1636. 12 generations in a direct line until today are an extremely rare example of family continuity and viticultural tradition. The winery's worldwide reputation was founded by Dr. Hugo Thanisch and, since 1895, his widow Katharina, who successfully continued the winery after her husband's early death - more than unusual in those male-dominated times. She was also a co-founder of the VDP.

The success of her top wines at wine auctions in the first half of the 20th century is spectacular. Today, this high-quality standard is still both a benchmark and an obligation. The management of the winery is currently shared by Sofia Thanisch and her daughter Christina - as the 11th and 12th generation of the Thanisch family and the 4th and 5th generation of women! This female continuity has established the tradition of a women's winery.

95 - JAMES SUCKLING

It may be the wrong season where you are now, but open this wine and there are all the spring blossoms you could wish for. And somehow it also tastes virtually weightless, tiptoeing over your palate like a ballet dancer. Long, creamy, and silky finish that’s so fine and delicate. Limited production. Drink or hold.
